Since the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, at least 1,800 people have leapt to their deaths there, according to a nonprofit group. SAN FRANCISCO—A project to hang a net under the Golden Gate Bridge to prevent people from jumping to their death has hit another delay, much to the consternation of those trying to cut down on suicides there. The net concept was initially approved by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District in 2008, but crews only began installing it five years ago, at which point it was expected to be completed by January 2021.
